Sharing
the Joy of Yoga
Yoga
is a 5,000 year old art and science of balancing
the body, mind and spirit. Yoga study includes
asana, pranayama, meditation, and philosophy.
The Yoga Centre of Burlington recognizes a growing
need for well-trained, qualified yoga instructors.
Graduates of the Yoga Teacher Training Program
at the Yoga Centre of Burlington may work in
the community, planning and instructing for:
-Industry
-Correctional institutions
-Senior citizens’ programs
-Recreation, sport and fitness centres
-Board of Education
-Schools for the disabled

PHILOSOPHY
ETHICS AND LIFESTYLE - 28
contact hours
Philosophy
I: History of yoga from
its Eastern beginnings; Overview of Hindu
Scriptures and an introduction to the Upanisads;
Study of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and
the Eight Limbs of Yoga; Introduction to Sanskrit
pronunciation and chanting. Written assignment
and final quiz. Texts: ‘How to Know
God, The Yoga Aphorisms of Patanjali’
and ‘Windows Into the Infinite’.
Philosophy
II: Study of the Bhagavad Gita; An Introduction
to Hindu Mythology; An Introduction to Buddhism. Written
assignment and final quiz.
Ayurveda
Lifestyle and Health: A workshop presenting the
yogic viewpoint on the application of food in healing and
maintenance of health; a look at Ayurvedic philosophy in
relation to yoga practice.
Leadership
and Communication: Learning the tools of compassionate leadership is essential in
teaching yoga. We will learn how to service others and set an
example for others to follow. We will learn how to tune into
our own true nature and compassionately express our inner
gifts.
Sanskrit:
The sacred sanskrit language will be studied along with mantra, Sanskrit pronunciation and chanting.
ANATOMY
AND PHYSIOLOGY - 20

Anatomy
I: Includes both human physical anatomy and physiology
and energy anatomy and physiology (nadis) healthy
movement patterns, benefits, contraindications. Written assignment
and final exam.
Chakra
Study: Study of the Chakra anatomy system, its
symbolism and incorporation into meditation. Written assignment
and final quiz.
TECHNIQUES - 100 contact hours
These
courses include asana, pranayama, kriyas
80 hours, chanting, mantra, meditation 20
hours
Meditation
Study: An exploration
of the many approaches to meditation. A
personal approach will be encouraged. Written
assignment.
Asana/Pranayama
I: Study of the basic
poses (alignment, cautions, modifications
and benefits); the basic principles of full
yoga breathing; philosophy of yoga breathing
(directing and movement of energy through
the breath); the science of relaxation.
Written assignment and final exam. Personal
Source books (accumulation of resource materials)
and journals (on-going hand-written account
of your experience of yoga practice) are
requirements of this course. Text: ‘Light
On Yoga’ & Light on Pranayama,
Yoga in Action.
Asana/Pranayama
II: A
deeper exploration of the basic poses, including
inversions: longer holding time in poses,
working with variations, evolving toward
intermediate and advanced poses. An exploration
of intermediate breathing techniques, and
bandhas. Source books and journals are required
during this course.
Classroom attendance basic and advanced - Students will be required to attend at least 2 classesper week in addition to the weekend courses. One of your classes is with Nesta the others are with either Margaret or Davina.
TEACHING
METHODOLOGY - 22

Teaching
methodology includes principles of demonstration,
observation, assisting/correcting, instruction,
teaching styles, qualities of a teacher,
the student’s process of learning,
and business aspects of yoga.
PRACTICUM - 10 contact hours
Continuing
the principles and practice of teaching
and assisting/correcting; an approach
to teaching styles; classroom atmosphere;
ethics and lifestyle; moving into the
life of a yogi. 4 hours assisting and
abserving, 6 hours actual teaching
Major
Workshop - one weekend workshop with Francois
Raoult - 13 hours.
All
texts are available for purchase at The
Yoga Centre or through our lending library
(subject to availability).
Non-Contact
Hours: In addition to contact hours there
will be reading, research, written assignments,
discussion, presentations, tests and of
course your regular personal practice.

Upon receipt of your application, we will make arrangements to
meet with you at The Yoga Centre for an orientation and interview
in order to assess acceptance. Space is limited, register early.
How to Qualify for acceptance: Acceptance is at the director’s
discretion which will be based on past experience and training. No
one will be accepted into the program without past experience.

Section
2:Healing Meditation Teacher Training Program
with Tony Murdock, MA
This is a unique 9 month 125 hour in-depth and comprehensive training program, being
offered during the fall of 2011 and the winter and spring of 2012. The core 110 contact
hours provide an experiential exploration of meditation, mysticism, philosophy and
spiritual lifestyle training. The additional 15 non-contact hours provide an opportunity to
